The advantages of using LED Lighting

LED lighting in Surrey

Going ‘green’ is a hot topic and many of us are looking at ways in which we can help the environment. One simple change we can make is to use LED (or light emitting diode) lighting as opposed to ordinary household light bulbs.

But, not only does LED lighting provide numerous environmental benefits, it can also help save you or your business money in the long run.

LED lighting has a longer life span than traditional bulbs

LED light bulbs can last up to 20 times longer than standard light bulbs, for this reason they are considered to be eco-friendly which has a positive effect on the environment.

As LEDs last longer, they do not have to be replaced as often, ultimately meaning fewer bulbs need to be produced, reducing the resources required for manufacturing, packaging and transportation. Plus, less bulbs end up in our waste.

LEDs are more energy efficient

LED bulbs waste far less energy than other forms of lighting. This is because they require less power, converting 95% of their energy into light compared to fluorescent lights for example which convert around 95% of the energy they produce into heat and only 5% into light. The less energy used, the more positive the effect on the environment.

When less energy is required to produce lighting, monthly energy bills decrease, so as a homeowner or business owner, choosing LED lighting can help you save money.

LEDs are less harmful to the environment

LED bulbs contain no hazardous material and do not require specialist disposal, making them much safer for the environment. Whereas fluorescent tube lights for example, contain toxic chemical and elements including mercury. When disposed of in landfill sites, these toxic elements can leak out and contaminate the environment. They therefore need to be collected by specialist waste carriers to be disposed of in a particular way.

In conclusion

These are just some of the advantages of using LED lighting, this money saving, environmentally friendly form of lighting can be purchased in bulbs for your home, office and garden or as fixtures, lamps and built in mood lighting.
